Oil Painting From Photo
Oil Painting From Photos: What's different
Is an oil painting from photo different than any other oil painting? Well, the final result is the same; oil on canvas. However, the oil painting from photo process is different. A realistic painting from photo must convey an exact replica of the photo. It's different than an original oil painting in that the customer expects to see an exact reproduction of the photo.
Oil Painting From Photos: Different techniques
Since the artist needs to accomplish an exact replica when doing an oil painting from photo, many artists use different techniques to simplify this process
Oil Painting From Photo: carbon copy
Many of us have probably done this at one time or another. We print a photo onto a carbon paper, put the carbon print onto a blank paper, and then use a pencil to draw the image of the photo on the blank paper. You may be surprised to know that some artists who do oil paintings from photos also use this technique in order to get an exact sketch of the photo they are painting.
Oil Painting From Photo: giclee
Another method which is quite popular with some art studios is to print the photo onto a blank canvas in a process known as 'giclee', and then have an artist go over it with oil paint to give it the look of an oil painting. This is the most simple method of doing an oil painting from photo since the artist begins working on the painting when he/she already have the exact photo printed on the canvas. All that is required is a couple layers of oil paint to cover the print ink.
The outcome may look the same, but there are differences which you might not be aware of:- The painting is made up of a combination of print ink and oil paint. This will affect the longevity of your painting, as well as result in the colors fading over time.
- The oil painting from photo your purchase is not 100% handmade, and is not created using the artist's artistic touch.
- The artist who might work on your painting might not even be an experienced artist, since this process does not require the true skills which are needed to do a real 100% handmade painting.
